Finding a new property can be an overwhelming experience at the best of times, let alone in the middle of a global pandemic. The pandemic has made people realise what they want out of their homes. If you find yourself looking for a new property during this hectic time, there are a few things you should probably consider that you might not have given a second thought to in a pre-COVID-19 world. This post will look at some of those things and hopefully help you in your search for a new home.

Find a suitable property expert

Whether you’re looking to buy or rent, you’ll want to find a suitable property expert, like those at Jordan & Halstead. If you’re going to find the perfect home for you, you need someone who will be honest and transparent with you about how the property market is so you know where you stand.

Think about location

Do you need to move location to be closer to family? The pandemic has shown us the importance of being closer to loved ones to be able to help out when we can. When you live so far away from them, it can be hard especially during times like these. You may need help with childcare or you may need to provide care for a vulnerable loved one, It might not have crossed your mind before COVID-19, but it’s something worth considering if you are looking to move now

Another reason to think about moving location is for more, open, green space. If you live in a big city like London, for example, you’ve probably not thought about how important open space is and the benefits it can provide. But because of the pandemic, people have now realised how much they want to live in more rural areas that they can get out and enjoy some fresh air.

Consider extra space

Those who have been lucky enough to continue working from home during the pandemic will know how important having plenty of space in the home is. Working remotely requires you to have a dedicated working space, and many people at the start of lockdown probably didn’t realise how long they would be working from home for. But you do need that space to allow you to get on with your work each day? This is probably why so many people now want a bigger home with more space or an additional room for an office to work from.

Not only for working reasons but being unable to go out with your children, parents may want a room in the home to set up as a play area to prevent their kids from being bored during this time. Or even having a room where you can create your own makeshift gym. If people are going to be in lockdown for long periods, then they will need the extra space at home to be able to function well.

These are just a few things you should consider when looking for a property in a pandemic, as well as the usual things you need to think about such as budget, mortgage, and future selling potential.
