We’ve all seen the adverts promising us financial peace and quiet. But it turns out that becoming genuinely “money calm” is something that we can all achieve, no matter what stage we’re at in our financial lives.
Becoming calm about money is part practical, and part theory. Some of it relates to the numbers in your bank account – and some of it relates to your emotions towards it.
Remember, if you live in a western country and have a regular job, you are wealthier than 95 per cent of people on the planet. And when you do surveys of people around the world, you find that they are always much happier than their income levels would suggest. That implies that you can achieve a sense of contentment too, regardless of your current situation.
So what does money calmness look like? Let’s take a look.
Get Covered
Things can go wrong in life unfortunately. Even the best laid plans go wrong. When that happens, it can lead to a lot of anxiety.
Fortunately, though, you don’t have to join this club, so long as you have the right insurance cover in place; something that this website explains. Remember, modern financial markets are much smarter than they used to be. You can manage your risk by getting protection where you need it most.
Recognise That Your Value Comes From Within
Without trying to sound all “woo woo,” it’s worth pointing out that your value as a person mainly comes from the inside. Yes – you might own some capital or a business, but predominantly, who you are shapes your destiny.
Think about the number of millionaires who lost it all and then went on to become billionaires. It wasn’t the money that made them successful, it was the incredible tools and practices they implemented in their lives every day. There was something buried deep inside of them all along that meant that money naturally flowed into their lives.
It’s worth remembering this when you worry about your money situation. The numbers coming into your account right now might be lower than normal. But that doesn’t mean you can’t pull it back in the future. Things will improve, and you’ll get your chance to allow your value to shine once more.
Simplify, Simplify, Simplify
Having lots of material possessions feels good when times are good, but it can be a real burden if things are bad economically – like they are at the moment. Many of the world’s wealthiest people, therefore, choose to lead simple, honest lives. They don’t go in for the trappings of wealth. Instead, they find ways to make their lives as simple as possible. Doing this frees up their mental and emotional energy, allowing them to go after the things that really make a difference to their wellbeing. Their time, inner peace and generosity all increase when they keep things as simple as they can.
So, are you going to become money calm in these times of turmoil?
